Located in Toronto’s west end along the Humber River, Old Mill Toronto is one of the city’s most iconic historic wedding venues. Established in 1914, the venue offers multiple ceremony and reception spaces, including a candlelit chapel with stained glass windows and elegant reception halls. Its timeless architecture and intimate atmosphere make it a beautiful setting for couples planning a romantic Toronto wedding.
Old Mill Toronto is especially known for its versatility throughout the seasons. With a mix of indoor and outdoor spaces, it works beautifully for both sunny summer celebrations and cozy late fall or winter weddings. The historic interiors, combined with nearby nature, create a balance that feels both elegant and grounded – something that translates effortlessly in photographs.
Photographing Zane and Olivia’s Jewish wedding at Old Mill Toronto was one of those days that reminded me why I love documentary wedding photography. Quiet moments, deep tradition, and a dance floor that never stopped.
GETTING READY
Zane and Olivia’s wedding took place in late November, when Toronto begins settling into the quiet warmth of fall. The day began with getting-ready moments surrounded by close friends and family. One particularly meaningful moment came as part of Jewish tradition: the groom is often helped into his wedding attire by family members. Zane was joined by the important men in his life as they helped him get dressed, transforming what might normally be a quick moment into something symbolic and deeply communal.
Meanwhile, Olivia prepared for the day with hair and makeup by One Shiny Bee as the anticipation quietly built.
FIRST LOOK
Before the ceremony, the couple shared a first look, giving them a quiet, private moment together before the celebrations began. With rainy-snowy weather forcing us to change our original outdoor plan, Melanie from BBY BLU FILM and I discovered an in-between setup room that couldn’t feel more quintessentially Old Mill.
BEDEKEN AND CEREMONY
Shortly after, the couple took part in the Bedeken, a meaningful Jewish wedding tradition where the groom veils the bride in the presence of their families. It’s a powerful moment that connects the couple to generations of tradition while bringing loved ones together in an intimate way, followed by the ceremony in the chapel at Old Mill Toronto beneath a beautiful chuppah provided by Chuppah.ca, with fall-inspired florals by Rye Floral adding warmth and texture to the space.
RECEPTION, HORA AND DINNER
Once the reception began, the celebration quickly reached another level. Guests mingled during cocktail hour before the energy shifted to the dance floor, where one of the highlights – the hora – had friends and family lifting the couple on chairs while everyone danced in a joyful circle. Laughter, music, and pure excitement filled the room, perfectly complemented by the seasonal décor: rich autumn tones, warm florals, and soft candlelight made the historic interiors of the Old Mill feel especially cozy, romantic, and timeless.

For guests driving, off-site self-serve parking is available at 20 Old Mill Road at $2.00 per hour with a maximum daily rate of $12.00. Flat parking fees can also be negotiated directly with the venue as part of your contract.
How much does a wedding at Old Mill Toronto cost?
Room rental at Old Mill Toronto runs approximately $700–$2,100 and food packages start around $64–$100+ per person depending on the spaces chosen, menu selections, and day of the week. Discounts are available for Friday weddings, off-season dates, and through seasonal promotions. Always contact their Catering Executive Team directly for a personalized quote as pricing varies significantly by room, season, and package.
How many guests can Old Mill Toronto accommodate?
With 16 distinctively designed spaces, Old Mill Toronto accommodates weddings ranging from intimate gatherings of 30 guests to grand celebrations of up to 500 people. Popular options include the Guildhall for larger receptions, the Garrett and Victoria rooms for mid-size celebrations of 60–120 guests, and the Secret Garden for outdoor ceremonies of up to 150 guests.
What ceremony spaces does Old Mill Toronto offer?
There are several options depending on your vision:
- The exclusive 16th-century candlelit chapel adorned with antique chandeliers brought from the UK in the 1960s, featuring hand-lit candles and stained glass windows — capacity 120 guests
- The Secret Garden — a serene outdoor space with ivy-covered trellis fencing and lush Humber River greenery, accommodating up to 150 guests
- The Guildhall patio — connected directly to the reception space for a seamless flow between ceremony and reception (this is the space where Olivia and Zane's dinner took place).
- Several indoor + outdoor alternatives including the Kingsbrook, Drawing and Garden are simply perfect for smaller, more intimate weddings.
Is Old Mill Toronto good for fall and winter weddings?
Absolutely — and this is one of the venue's most underrated qualities. In autumn the grounds along the Humber River turn spectacular shades of gold and amber and the architecture feels particularly warm and intimate against fall foliage. The changing seasons create completely different photography opportunities — morning light filters beautifully through the garden trees while evening light creates a golden glow against the historic stone exterior. In winter the Tudor-style stonework, stained glass windows, and original wood-burning fireplaces provide authentic character that modern venues simply cannot replicate. Zane and Olivia's November wedding featured in this post is a perfect example of how beautifully Old Mill photographs in late autumn.
Does Old Mill Toronto host multiple weddings at the same time?
This is one of the most important questions to ask — and one couples frequently overlook. It is common in the summer for Old Mill to host multiple weddings simultaneously. This means popular photo locations like the courtyard and garden can get busy. Ask your Catering Executive specifically about exclusivity for portrait locations and build time buffers into your photography timeline. For a more intimate exclusive-feel experience, consider a Friday or off-season date.
Are photography permits required at Old Mill Toronto?
Photos are allowed in all public hallways, outdoor gardens, and public areas of the patio. Photos are not permitted in private ballrooms, the chapel, the hotel lobby, or Canto Bar. Note that even guests staying at the Old Mill Hotel are required to pay for a separate photo permit to take pictures on the grounds — confirm this with your venue coordinator in advance so there are no surprises on the day.
What is the difference between Old Mill Toronto and Old Mill Hotel?
This confuses many couples. Old Mill Toronto is the event and wedding venue. Old Mill Hotel is the adjacent boutique hotel with 13 suites and 45 rooms. They are connected and work closely together but are managed separately — so confirm any accommodation arrangements directly with the hotel and any event arrangements directly with the venue's Catering Executive team.
Can guests stay at Old Mill Toronto on the wedding night?
Yes — the adjacent Old Mill Toronto Hotel and Spa offers convenient guest accommodations including luxurious bridal suites with fireplaces. The hotel offers preferred rates for wedding groups — inquire with the hotel directly about group booking options. Having guests stay on-site means no transportation worries after the reception and a much more relaxed end to the evening.
Is there a spa at Old Mill Toronto?
Yes — the on-site spa offers a range of services perfect for pre-wedding pampering including massages, facials, manicures, and makeup application. Many couples book the spa for their bridal party on the morning of the wedding, using the hotel suites for getting ready and the spa for beauty services — creating a beautiful and unhurried start to the day.
Can you bring your own officiant to Old Mill Toronto?
Yes — you can provide your own minister, officiant, or rabbi. Your officiant will be responsible for conducting the wedding ceremony and rehearsal. Note that if your officiant is not licensed in Ontario, a $500 minister fee will apply. A resident officiant and chapel organist are also available if you prefer a more traditional ceremony experience.
Is Old Mill Toronto wheelchair accessible?
Yes — Old Mill Toronto is committed to accessibility in accordance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act. Contact them directly for specific accessibility queries related to your event.
What time do events end at Old Mill Toronto?
Setup can begin at 8:00 AM and events must end by 1:00 AM. Coat check service is available for a minimal cost to the host between October and May — worth knowing for autumn and winter weddings.
